Physical & Health Education
K-12 PE/Health Department
Department Philosophy
The BPS Physical Education and Health Department believes that all students should develop the knowledge, skills, and habits necessary to support lifelong physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. Through meaningful experiences in health and physical education, students build physical literacy, self-awareness, confidence, and the ability to make informed decisions about their health. We strive to create inclusive learning environments in which students feel safe, supported, and connected while developing personal responsibility, resilience, and a sense of ownership over their well-being. Our goal is to prepare students to make healthy choices and sustain active, balanced lives beyond the classroom.
Approach to Teaching & Learning
Physical Education and Health instruction emphasizes active engagement, skill development, reflection, decision-making, and real-world application. Students learn through movement, inquiry, discussion, cooperative experiences, goal-setting, and authentic health-related scenarios. Teachers provide differentiated opportunities that appropriately challenge learners while using formative assessment and timely feedback to support individual growth. Through experiences that promote teamwork, communication, leadership, conflict resolution, and self-management, students develop greater autonomy and learn to apply their knowledge to decisions affecting their physical, mental, social, and emotional health.
