Career & Technology Education

Department Philosophy

The BPS Career and Technical Education Department believes that students learn deeply when they can connect knowledge and skills to authentic, meaningful applications. CTE empowers students with the academic knowledge, technical expertise, mindsets, and experiences needed for success in college, careers, and life. Through relevant and hands-on learning, students develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, adaptability, resilience, and confidence. We prepare students to become curious, forward-thinking individuals who can navigate challenges, make informed decisions, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and thrive in a dynamic and evolving world.

Approach to Teaching & Learning

CTE instruction is grounded in hands-on, student-centered learning that connects academic knowledge with technical skills and authentic real-world experiences. Students engage in meaningful tasks that reflect professional practices, explore career pathways, use current tools and technologies, and develop employability and leadership skills. Teachers create relevant learning experiences that encourage problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, reflection, and learning from both success and failure. Through connections with industry and community partners, authentic applications, ongoing feedback, and opportunities to demonstrate technical competence, students develop the skills and confidence necessary to transition successfully to college, careers, and life.
